Sealing components made from dimensionally stable engineering plastics improve performance, extend service life, and reduce costs, replacing underperforming materials in many applications.
Sealing and gasket components are essential to ensuring engineering parts and machines function properly, preventing leaks and unsecure closures. The strength of valve seals, labyrinth seals, valve seat inserts, and other gasket components depends on the material they are made from as well as the operating conditions of an application.
Advanced polymers provide strong seals across applications in many industries, and materials designed for superior function in many different conditions are also manufactured. With properties like mechanical toughness, dimensional stability, and superior wear resistance, we offer solutions for even the most extreme environments.
Typical Applications:
PTFE (Teflon) is a high-performance thermoplastic known for its exceptional chemical inertness, capable of withstanding almost all corrosive chemicals except alkaline metals and extremely low friction. It features a wide operating temperature range (-260°C to +260°C), excellent sealing properties, is an outstanding electrical insulator, and is non-flammable. For applications involving high wear or significant mechanical stress, reinforced PTFE types are used, such as Glass-filled PTFE, Carbon-filled PTFE, and Carbon-Graphite-filled PTFE, offering improved wear resistance, hardness, service life, and load-bearing capability.
Fluorosint™ 207 PTFE is a food contact-compliant grade of polytetrafluoroethylene with a unique combination of dimensional stability and creep resistance, exceptional sliding and wear properties and outstanding chemical and hydrolysis resistance. Possessing the lowest coefficient of friction of all Fluorosint™ materials, Fluorosint™ 207 PTFE shapes excel in food, pharmaceutical and chemical processing industries, especially for aggressive service bearing and bushing applications. It is also a preferred material for lower pressure seats and seals, where virgin PTFE fails and food contact compliance may be required.
Fluorosint™ 500 PTFE shapes possess a unique combination of stability and wear resistance for sealing applications where tight dimensional control is required. With nine times greater resistance to deformation under load than unfilled PTFE, Fluorosint™ 500 polytetrafluoroethylene exhibits outstanding chemical and hydrolysis resistance and excellent mechanical and tribological properties. Additionally, Fluorosint™ 500 PTFE’s coefficient of linear thermal expansion approaches the expansion rate of aluminum and is 1/4 that of virgin PTFE, which often eliminates fit and clearance problems for designers.
Fluorosint™ HPV PTFE is an FDA compliant, high-performance bearing grade material. Optimized for high-pressure velocity and low k-factor, Fluorosint™ HPV PTFE was developed specifically for bearing applications where other PTFE formulations typically exhibit premature wear. Ideal for food processing and pharmaceutical applications, Fluorosint™ HPV PTFE’s FDA compliance gives equipment manufacturers new design options for load-bearing and wear applications.
Ketron™ 1000 FG PEEK (Food Grade) is a EU 10/2011 and FDA compliant, unfilled general purpose polyetheretherketone grade that offers the highest elongation and toughness of all materials in the PEEK family. Ideal for instrument and seal components, where ductility and inertness are critical, Ketron™ 1000 FG PEEK shapes are known for their ability to fit within a variety of applications and industries.
