Duratron™ PEI is a transparent amber, high-performance polymer offering high strength, rigidity, and long-term heat resistance. It provides excellent dimensional stability and broad chemical resistance, making it ideal for precision components used in reusable medical devices, analytical instruments, electronic insulators, and structural parts requiring stability at elevated temperatures.
Mitsubishi Chemical Group supplies two standard grades: Duratron™ U1000 PEI and Duratron™ U2300 PEI.
The Duratron™ LSG PEI stock shapes are also pre-assessed for biocompatibility for up to 24 hours contact with body and tissue according to USP VI and ISO 10993. Some color variations are also pre-assessed for use in wetted contact applications in bioprocessing.
Combining biocompatibility with peak performance, Duratron™ LSG PEI exhibits outstanding mechanical, thermal, electrical properties, as well as very good resistance to hydrolysis and chemicals.
Duratron™ LSG PEI components are also sterilizable by means of steam (autoclave), dry heat, EtO (Ethylene Oxide), plasma and gamma and X-ray irradiation. Due to these properties, Duratron™ LSG PEI is an excellent candidate for applications in the medical and bioprocessing fields such as trial implants and radiotherapy applicators.
Duratron™ U1000 are amorphous PEI (polyetherimide) shapes that exhibit high strength, dimensional stability and superior flame and heat resistance. Due to this grade’s ability to perform continuously to 170°C (340°F), Duratron™ U1000 PEI is the ideal solution for applications that require consistent dielectric properties over a wide frequency range. Another strength of Duratron™ U1000 PEI shapes are their hydrolysis and chemical resistance, enabling them to withstand repeated autoclaving cycles in medical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology markets.
Duratron™ U2100 PEI shapes are 10% glass-reinforced, giving them greater rigidity and dimensional stability over Duratron™ U1000 PEI. Furthermore, the material shows a low coefficient of linear thermal expansion. With an excellent strength-to-weight ratio and high tensile strength, this Polyetherimide grade is ideal for semiconductor and electronics applications.
Duratron™ U2200 PEI shapes are 20% glass-reinforced, giving them exceptional rigidity and dimensional stability, high temperature resistance and a low coefficient of linear thermal expansion. With an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and increased tensile strength, this polyetherimide grade is also a great electrical insulator for semiconductor and electronics applications.
Duratron™ U2300 PEI is a flame resistant polyetherimide that is 30% glass-reinforced, allowing this grade to exhibit the highest rigidity, strength, dimensional stability and heat resistance of all Duratron™ PEI shapes. Possessing the lowest coefficient of linear thermal expansion (CLTE), superior strength-to-weight ratio and tensile strength, this grade is favored as a solution for reusable medical devices, analytical instruments, electrical insulators, semiconductor process components and structural components that require high strength and rigidity at elevated temperatures.
